Under the subject of philosophy, intuition can be defined as; the act by which the mind perceives the agreement or disagreement of two ideas. Intuition is used to describe "thoughts and preferences that come to mind quickly and without much reflection". Intuition provides us with beliefs that we cannot necessarily justify. For this reason, it has been the subject of study in psychology, as well as a topic of interest in the supernatural.

On yet another energy level -- the spiritual -- we become aware of influences and information through intuition. "You have innate abilities, already developed, that allow you to understand yourself, others, and your environment. These abilities can help you act in ways that create joy, success and healing ."

Catholic Encyclopedia - Intuition   [New Window]

"The importance of intuition as a process and element of knowledge is easily seen if we observe that it is intuition which furnishes us with the first experimental data as well as with the primary concepts and the fundamental judgments or principles which are the primitive elements and the foundation of every scientific and philosophical speculation." -[The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume VIII]-

Samten Williams: Natural Time and Intuition   [New Window]

"Natural Time is an experience of time as a synchronous resonance between the inner and outer cycles of nature. Mechanical time is an experience of time as a controlling force that is external to, and separate from, us as human beings."

"Natural time awareness gives us direct experience of the connection between inner and outer energies. Through this intuitive awareness we are better able to link intention with opportunity. Natural Time awareness tells us, with more confidence than the mechanical clock on the wall, when to move and when to sit still in the fulfillment of our personal and professional lives."

Intuition: Its Powers and Perils   [New Window]

"How reliable is our intuition? How much should we depend on gut-level instinct rather than rational analysis when we play the stock market, choose a mate, hire an employee, or assess our own abilities? In this engaging and accessible book, David G. Myers shows us that while intuition can provide us with useful---and often amazing---insights, it can also dangerously mislead us." -[Yale University Press]-

Edgar Cayce, who has been called the most documented psychic of all times, often stated that ultimately each one of us is our own best psychic. Psychic impressions come to us in the form of dreams, everyday hunches, synchronistic experiences that seem to defy logic, and even chance encounters or conversations with friends and strangers.

Sensation or Intuition (S/N)   [New Window]

"Carl Jung used the words "sensation" and "sensing" (S) to mean paying attention to what is going on outside ourselves, that is, external attention. Thus "sensation" may be used synonymously with three words pertaining to external attention,"observation", "externalization," and "exteroception."

In contrast, Jung gave us two engaging metaphors to convey how he used the word "intuition" (N). Intuition, he said, is "listening to the inner voice" or "heeding the promptings from within." The word "intuition" is engaging because it literally means "internal attention." We pay attention to what is going on inside ourselves with our mind's eye and our mind's ear, these promptings coming as thoughts and feelings...." -[Excerpted from Please Understand Me II, by David Keirsey Copyrighted 1998]-
